new school

i watch the food network a lot. the channel has really evolved from the beginning, for the best i think. today the network is marked by stars like rachael ray, bobby flay, and alton brown (who could really do any show on the network as well or better than anyone else).

emeril is yesterday's news, and with good reason. personally, i've tried some of emeril's food line and thought that it kind of sucked. but even moreso, the network is becoming more accessible to the everyday person. it's brilliant. most people cook in some capacity, or find interest in some facet of cooking. everyone has to eat. but emeril's show doesn't focus on easy to make recipes. sure, some are, but i always found his show was an effort to flaunt his skills, but i think the flavor is lacking.

eh, there's no point to this. just like the last few posts, it's just trailing off in the end...

the food network is maturing as a channel, getting rid of emril was a big step, they both relied on each other for a very long time. Emril helped to get the network off the ground and it isn't that much of a stretch to say that the catch phrase "BAM!" was a big part of it.

i love alton brown and sing his praises often. one of our customers at work has been to our plant a few times and it seems like every time he's there i end up at dinner with him for one reason or another. he's an older guy and he never remembers me when he shows up for whatever reason. the first time i met him i was struggling to make conversation and started rambling on about the food network of all things. but i hit a nerve with alton brown, he LOVES him! so now each time this guy comes in i can get him off on the biggest tangent thus preventing him from doing actual work just by mentioning or steering the conversation towards alton. it works like a charm. i again was at dinner with this guy last night and did it once again. i'm keeping a list of topics that keep him off of work subjects because we don't really want him digging too deep.

i knew if anyone would respond to this post it would be you, and i'm glad you did.

alton brown is unbelievable. what a practical approach to cooking. i love finding out not just what works, but why it works.

the network is thriving at an all time high right now, and has so many hit shows. and most of them are legitimately good.
