The random, irrelevant musings of a law school graduate.

thanks mlk

i'm far enough north where we can celebrate a black holiday with a cancellation of classes.

i went to walmart today, and the cashier's name was shakira. i shit you not. her hips were definitely lying though.

i also got groceries. i've mentioned before how i have to pay to have my trash taken away here. well the color of the bags in 2007 is green. i think they're nicer than the blue ones. my only gripe is that they will no longer pick up trash in the blue bags, even if you purchased them in 2006 (it would be impossible to purchase them any other time). at $3/bag i'm kind of pissed off about this, as i have a few extras.

ugh, whatever. it's another rainy, shitty day in pennsyltucky (go figure). time to watch a movie with santos.

At the main campus undergrads didn't get today off when I was there and it always caused quite a ruckas in what was said to be the most racist area in the nation. Up here, our US Sen and Rep spoke at City Hall along with some civic leaders, then people volunteered for 3 hours on various projects with our many non-profits, then there was free dinner, then some entertainment including West African music and dance. Btv does alright for itself eh?

You buy bags for $3 and then they take them away with that money? Charging by bag (or weight) is a dumb idea. Who is thinking about that at the point they could actually reduce their trash, that is, when buying things in the first place? Would people really think harder about creating waste to avoid the trash charge? I think not, they just start dumping their trash in places it doesn't belong.

i think you and santos should spray paint the bags green.

my school (in pa) also doesn't have MLK day off, but when i was in virginia for undergrad we did! why? because they've always celebrated jackson-lee day! (now called jackson-lee-king day) leave it to virginia to give a black man a holiday and throw in two confederate generals.
