january

if you think about it, it's really no surprise that lots of people commit suicide in january. it's freezing cold out, and as if that wasn't enough on it's own, it also makes the idea of regular exercise outdoors seem quite unappealing. and it's ridiculous to pay $30/month to join a gym simply to run.

but the problem of january only gets worse. it's cold, so people stay indoors more frequently. i watch significantly more television during the shitty winter than i do during the awesome spring, summer, or fall. the problem is, january is all reruns. hardly anything is new now, and stuff that is sucks. i don't watch a lot of tv to begin with and i think most shows suck, but it's even worse now.

compounding all of this is the ridiculous coverage that the caucuses and other pre-election crap is getting. there are still 10 months until election day. i hate to break it to the politically excitable, but the candidates just repeat all the same old shit for most of the time up until the election. some will break out late "surprises" to try and sway voters, but right now it's all the same old promises that will inevitably be broken by the future winner by a claim of misinterpretation.

it's a good thing the home life and the job are going well, because i'm getting pretty antsy around here with this crappy winter. i haven't played poker in almost 5 months and i haven't golfed in 3 months. winter = torture.

Yeah, there are definitely things about January that sucks. But poker is not an outdoor sort of thing. There's no reason not to have played poker for five months, and you can't blame it on January. Get back to the casino, dude. God, I want to go to Vegas so much....

True about poker, plus there is lots of fun stuff to do outside. Alpine ski (RI is challenged here though), Nordic ski, snowhoe (maybe RI is challenged in all of these) or skate. Or play pool, or bowl, take a class, or learn some new skill like painting or saxophone! Or install Gentoo linux which takes about a week if you want to really tweak it.

As much as I hate the endless election coverage, I guess the primaries are at least as important as the final election since some of the Republicans are left of some of the Democrats and vice versa. Although Kucinich is my favorite by far, I am realistically happy that Obama won the first one and Clinton was way behind.

yeah, the reason i haven't played poker is largely the new job. i can't blame that on winter.

as far as the outdoor activities go, my problem is just that i hate the cold. skiing i will pass on because while it is kind of fun, i already have 1 expensive hobby (golf). i should probably just move where it's warm but i love the northeast (except for the winter of course) and i've lived in the south, not to much acclaim. plus i love being near family and good friends and i love my job here. no place is perfect, here i just bitch about the cold.

You're not gonna like Clownfish's picks.

His new nickname around the house is traitor.

Totally have this parenting thing down and priorities straight.
